Creative flooring

This is the first light green mamas post as part of Green Baby Guide’s Thrifty Green Thursdays. It’s also the first GBG Thrifty Green Thursday!

I didn’t have anything special planned for today’s post and as I sat here wondering how I am thrifty green my eyes wandered to the floor. There I saw these…

They are carpet samples that my husband brought home from work. We’ve gradually been acquiring more as he saves them from the dumpster. Some we will use to cover some exposed basement floor others we’ll put under an existing carpet to serve as a pad. A1 also has one under her play kitchen in hopes of keeping the wood floor under it nice. Now I know that not every one has the advantage of a husband who works in an architecture firm with interior designers that throw out carpet samples. I would however assume that you could call an interior design firm and ask if you could take their old samples off their hands for them or just hang out by their dumpster trying not to look odd.

The carpet that we have, or that you find, may not be green in and of itself but at least it’s being saved from a landfill.

  1. Great idea! Those samples really work well together. Now you have a one-of-a-kind floor covering! Thanks for joining the blog carnival at the Green Baby Guide.

  2. These are actually quite beautiful! I love that you recycled carpet samples while creating such a fabulous look. Well done!

  3. Brilliant! I love the idea of reusing (or re-purposing as I heard the term this week) things that would otherwise end up in landfill.

One man’s trash and all that…………
I think it’s wonderful that you can take advantage of your dh’s workplace like this – it shows creativity :)
